PHILADELPHIA - The Duquesne women's tennis team played three matches this past weekend in Philadelphia. The Dukes began with a 5-2 victory over Saint Joseph's before falling to Temple 4-1 and Massachusetts 5-0.
Against SJU, DUQ fell behind early as the Hawks took the double point. However, Duquesne came back strong in singles - with Vanessa Steiner and Judy Li both winning at the #2 and #3 spots respectively after dropping the first set. Paula Gruber, Chandler Consonery and Tara Majdalani were straight set winners at #4, #5 and #6.
Against Temple, Majdalani recorded the only point for Duquesne at the #6 singles spot. The match against UMass began with singles and was decided as UM took the #1, #3, #4, #5 and #6 singles spots.
The Dukes (3-4, 1-2 A-10) look to get back on track this weekend when they face Xavier (3-3, 0-0 A-10) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and George Washington (2-2, 0-0 A-10) on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Both matches are at Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh.
