Women's Tennis Defeats Morehead State 5-2

HARMAR, Pa. - The Duquesne women's tennis team got its first win of the season on Sunday after defeating Morehead State 5-2 at Alpha Fitness and Tennis of Pittsburgh.

The Dukes (1-1) swept the doubles point with Megan O'Sullivan and Vanessa Steiner winning 8-1 over Victoria Cran and Jessica Montemayor at the #1 slot. At #2, Judy Li and Alrissa Tobe were 8-6 winners over Alix Young and Alexis Garrett. Tara Majdalani and Paula Gruber won at #3 by the score of 8-4 over Brooke Helms and Shilpa Naruka.

In singles, O'Sullivan was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Young at #1. Steiner took out Garrett in the #2 spot by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Cran defeated Li at #3 6-2, 6-0. Gruber was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Montemayor at #4. Helms got by Chandler Consonery in the #5 spot 6-3, 6-4 and Majdalani was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Naruka.

"This was a great win for us today," said head coach Joe Camillo. "Morehead is a good team and we fought hard all the way. I'm very proud of each player today. "

The Eagles (2-3) were coming off an impressive road win at West Virginia on Saturday.

Up next for Duquesne will be California, Pa. on Fri. Feb. 3rd. The Vulcans (3-0) were ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II. CalU was also the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Region in the fall rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
