Duquesne's men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-1 victory over Valparasio in day one action of the Duquesne Tournament Friday evening on Rooney Field. Freshman Austin Lange tallied his first collegiate goal in the 41st minute while senior Derek Patrizio kicked in the game-winner in the 69th minute.
The Dukes took the 1-0 lead into the intermission, but the Crusaders evened the slate just 14 seconds into the second stanza. DU outshot Valparaiso 9-6 in the second half, but had the shot that mattered as Patrizio fired a shot that was blocked only to score the winning tally seconds later off an assist by sophomore Simon Gomez.
The Red and Blue return to action on Sunday, Sept. 4 as they face Stony Brook at 1:30 pm.
