LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Duquesne women's track and field team had an outstanding meet at the 2011 Bucknell Team Challenge, finishing second overall in the six-team field.
The host school finished first with 248 points. The Dukes scored 180 points followed by Mount St. Mary's with 60, Saint Francis, Pa. 56, Lock Haven 45 and Bloomsburg 27.
Duquesne had seven first place finishes, each worth 10 points. Amber Valimont took first in the 3000m with a time of 9:57.76. Sierra Larsuel was first in the long jump with a distance of 18-10.75. Brittany Edwards was first in the triple jump with a distance of 38-2.25. Ashley Adams took first in the discus with an ECAC qualifying throw of 147-05. Adams was also first in the shot put with a throw of 42-6. Sherie Key was first in the high jump with a 5-3. Nicole Cherok was first in the 400m hurdles finishing in 1:02.37.
The 4x100 team of Cherok, Taylor Glenn, Kristin Wenthen and Shannon Abraham were second overall with a time of 48.60 which scored the Dukes eight points. The four also scored eight points in the 4x400 with an ECAC qualifying time of 3:50.15. Glenn's second place finish in the 200m (25.14) and 400m (56.20) also scored DU eight points. The 4x800 team of Colleen Gilmore, Laura Vehlies, Paige Bedner and Shelby Haitz were second, scoring eight points, with a time 9:43.56. Key was second in the triple jump with a distance of 37-10.
Up next for the Dukes is the historic Penn Relays on April 28-30.
