Duquesne's lacrosse team fought back from a 4-1 halftime deficit to capture an 8-7 victory over visiting UMBC Saturday afternoon on a rain-soaked Rooney Field.
Katie Rekart and Cailin Colegrove each scored three second half goals while Liz Walker made eight saves in goal. The Red and Blue outshot UMBC, 30-19, which included a 17-7 advantage in the second half.
Trailing 4-0, the Dukes scored the last goal of the first half and the first six tallies of the second stanza to take a 7-4 advantage. The Retrievers then scored three straight in a span of three and a half minutes, two of which were with a player advantage due to a DU yellow card, to tie the score with 5:38 remaining.
Colegrove then scored the game-winner on a free position shot with 58 seconds left in the contest to capture the victory.
Meredith Dunn and Caitlin Prince also scored goals in the contest while Haley Marafioti notched the lone DU assist on the day.
The Dukes return to action on Sunday, March 13 as they travel to Detroit for a 2:00 pm contest.
