HARMAR, Pa. - The Duquesne women's tennis team snapped its four-game losing streak after its 4-3 victory over Army on Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes improve to 4-7 on the season, while Army falls to 13-4. The Black Knights had won 11 of its pervious 12 matches before the Duquesne match.
The teams split the #1 and #2 doubles matches, with DU's Megan O'Sullivan and Samantha Noble winning at the one 8-4 over Jessica Ahn and Anne Haughton. Army's Erin Colton and Annie Hang took the two over Judy Li and Madeline Bittner 8-3. The team of Ana Mungo and Tara Majdalani won at #3 doubles defeating Margaret Iliev and Della Taylor by a score of 8-4.
Haughton was a straight set winner over Mungo at #1 singles by the score of 6-4, 6-4.
After falling 7-5 in the first set at #2 singles, O'Sullivan rebounded by winning the next two sets 6-4, 6-2.
Li fell behind at #3 singles, losing the first set 6-2 to Colton. The next two sets went into tie-breakers, with Li coming out on top 7-6 (4) and 7-6 (10).
Noble was a straight set winner over Hang 6-1, 6-4 at #4 singles.
Army won both #5 and #6 singles - Emily Stein 6-3, 6-1 over Majdalani and Iliev over Alrissa Tobe 6-3, 6-4.
Next up for the Dukes will be Villanova on Saturday morning. Match time begins at 9:30 a.m.
