LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Duquesne women's tennis team complete a successful weekend at the Bucknell Invitational led by Samantha Noble who remained undefeated in singles (6-0) after winning the B Flight singles.
Noble did not lose a single set in her three wins over Sonia Tsay of Hofstra 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals, Daria Tuzhikova of Bucknell 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals and Christie Gattelaro of Hofstra 6-4, 6-2 in the championship round.
After splitting her first two matches in the B Flight, Tara Majdalani defeated Joy Johnson of Loyola and battled Tsay in the last match of the back draw. After dropping the first set 7-5, Majdalani battled back to win the match 6-3 (10-7).
The double team of Alrissa Tobe and Madeline Bittner won the back draw of the Flight B Doubles. They started out with a hard fought 9-8 loss to Villanova's Wes Donadio and Angie Cognetti. They went on to win three consecutive matches over teams from Loyola, Mount St. Mary's and Loyola once again the final match.
"I am very pleased with the upperclassmen and how they have stepped up to be leaders of this team," said head coach Joe Camillo. "Our freshmen have also made great strides and I am also excited to see Megan O'Sullivan back in action."
O'Sullivan went 1-1 in the B Singles, advancing to the semifinals after receiving a first round bye and defeating Loyola's Andi Keyser-Baker.
The Dukes wrap up the Fall 2010 season Oct. 8-9 in Toledo, Ohio for the Rocket Invitational.
