PITTSBURGH - In the second match of the 2010 Duquesne Classic, the women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season with a 2-0 shutout of Marist on Friday night.

Laura Tlumack and Morgan Herbert found the back of the net for the Dukes (1-1-1) - both off of headers. Gabby Morrin recorded her first shutout of the season while making three saves.

The Dukes had the game's first scoring chance, but a Lauren Ott shot sailed high of the goal in the 14th minute. Less than two minutes later, Tlumack got the Dukes on the scoreboard when she took a header off a Bridget Lynch corner kick past Marist keeper Jamie Balzarini.

Duquesne had one more scoring chance in the first half, but Balzarini turned away Kathleen Wolff in the 35th minute.

DU would take its 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Dukes kept the offensive presence going in the second half. In the 65th minute, Herbert was stopped at point blank range by Balzarini and Lynch pulled a shot wide right in the 70th minute. Vinicky's corner kick was headed in by Herbert in the 73rd minute giving Duquesne a 2-0 advantage.

Morrin would make a pair of saves down the stretch to preserve the shutout.

The 2010 Duquesne Classic concludes on Sunday beginning at noon. Saint Louis, who played Towson to a scoreless draw in the first match, will play Marist followed by the Dukes and Tigers at 2:00 p.m.
