PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne lacrosse team won its third game in a row on Sunday afternoon after a 16-8 victory over Canisius at Rooney Field.a
Kat McNish led all scorers with eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) and Meghan Frederick had a game-high five assists as the Dukes improved to 4-5 on the season.
Sarah Beckstead played the whole game in net and made six saves while recording her second victory of the year.
Katie Rekart added four goals and Frederick, Lauren Johnson and Elisa Caldwell scored twice and Cailin Colegrove once for DU.
Kate Gosson had a team-high two and added an asisst for the Golden Griffins (3-5).
Duquesne set the pace of contest by jumping out to an early 4-0 lead in the match's first four minutes.
Ashley Curtis got CU on the board at the 25:26 mark. The game went scoreless for the next 12 minutes until the Griffs' Rachel Brand made the score 4-2 on a free position shot.
Meredith Dunn set up Caldwell at 6:26 for a goal followed by a pair of Johnson's goal at 5:51 and 4:00 put the Dukes up 7-2 going into halftime.
McNish opened up the second half scoring 1:27 in with her third goal of the match. Colegrove's goal 16 seconds later made the score 9-2.
Gosson would scored her second goal of the game before back-to-back McNish goals, with both assists from Frederick put the Dukes up by eight at 11-3 with 18:27 to play.
Canisius would narrow the gap to six after scoring four of the next six goals to make the score 13-7 with 10:39 remaining.
Rekart would score three straight times in four-and-a-half minutes, the last at 2:21, to give DU a 16-7 advantage.
Carly Quinn closed out the scoring with three seconds remaining on a free position shot.
The Dukes out shot the Golden Griffins 35-20 and picked up 15 ground balls to CU's seven.
Next up for DU is the Atlantic 10 Conference opener in Philadelphia. Duquesne will play a pair of games - Friday at Saint Joseph's at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at La Salle at 11:00 a.m.
