Senior Derek Dutille finished seventh of 32 runners in the 3,000 meter steeplechase Saturday evening with a time of 8:55.76 at the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C. He missed an automatic berth to the NCAA National Championship by two places, which was a total of three seconds.

Dutille will have to wait until Monday to see if his season-best time of 8:52.44, which he ran at the IC4A Championship, will hold up for one of seven remaining at-large NCAA spots. The NCAA Championship will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. in two weeks.
