PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne lacrosse team fell to 5-8 on the season and 1-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference after their 15-10 loss against Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon.

Ashley Wood scored a team-high five goal for the Dukes who dropped their first-ever match to the Hawks in 12 total meetings.

Jenna Martino recorded five goals, Jessica Westlake added four more and keeper Suzy Herlihy made 17 saved for SJU who improved to 7-6, 3-1 on the season.

Helene Tursi opened the game's scoring 47 seconds into the match. Wood countered three minutes later to even the score at 1-1.

Tursi's second of the contest gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead at the 24:21 mark. Julie Mineweaser followed with a goal 48 seconds later before Wood scored her second goal of the match. The one goal deficit 20:41 would be as close as DU would get the rest of the way.

Liz Fey would get DU's next goal sandwiched between SJU scored from Westlake and Mehan McDevitt and Tursi and Martino. Saint Joseph's took a 7-3 advantage into halftime.

The Hawks used three straight goals to start out the second half, taking its largest lead of the game at seven goals, 10-3, with 25:10 to play.

Duquesne kept chipping away at the Saint Joseph's lead as Wood's free position shot and a pair of goals from Frederick got DU within five goals, 11-6, at the 20:13 mark.

The Dukes would get even closer, trailing 13-10 with 2:36 to play, after Wood's fifth of the match capped a 4-2 run which included goals by Alicia Krause, Sarah Cates and another from Wood.

The rally would fall short, as SJU scored a pair of open net goals to take the match 15-10.

Duquesne will step out of conference play on Friday afternoon when they host Saint Mary's from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Match time is 1:00 p.m.
