PITTSBURGH - Kelly Haggerty scored six times and added a pair of assists leading the #18/19 Ohio State Buckeyes to a 20-11 victory over the Duquesne lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon.
Reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Ashley Wood and Alicia Krause each netted a hat trick, Janna Faulkner and Cailin Colegrove scored twice and Shannon Hadaway added a goal for the Dukes who fell to 4-5 on the season.
Sara Beckstead and Caitlin Carducci combined to make 13 saves.
The Buckeyes wasted no time getting on the board as an Alayna Markwordt's goal 67 seconds into play was the first of eight consecutive OSU goals.
Wood's goal at 19:35 was Duquesne's first score of the afternoon.
Ohio State would score the next two goals from Haggerty and Lauren Sterner. The Dukes answered with back-to-back goals from Krause and Colegrove to make the score 10-3 at the 11:30 mark.
OSU would score the next seven goals to take a 17-3 lead into halftime.
Wood scored her second of the match 29 seconds into the second half, but the Buckeyes responded with two straight goals to give them their largest lead of the game, 15 goals, at 19-4.
The Dukes scored seven of the next eight goals, but would not come any closer than nine goals as the Buckeyes took the road victory 20-11.
The loss ended a four-game winning streak for DU who open Atalntic 10 Conference play on the road against George Washington on Friday. The Dukes will complete their road trip on Mar. 29 when they visit Richmond. Duquesne returns to Rooney Field to host La Salle on April 4.
