Women's Tennis Splits a Pair of Matches This Weekend

MONROEVILLE - The Duquesne women's tennis team split their weekend series by falling to Army 5-2 on Saturday before defeating Villanova 6-1 on Sunday.

The Black Knights started Saturday's match off my taking the doubles point. Zena Williams and Rachel McGowan were 8-7 winners at #1 doubles, but Army held off the teams of Rebecca Poole and Samantha Noble and Tara Majdalani and Lanna Buehler to win the point two matches to one.

The Knights would take the #1, #2 #5 and #6 singles points as Poole and Noble were winner at #3 and #4 respectively.

The next day, the Dukes came out of the gates early, capturing the doubles points with match wins from the teams of Williams and McGowan and Pool and Noble.

DU won five of the six singles points and were a tie-breaker away from the sweep as Noble fell at #4 singles 7-5, 3-6 (10-7). Williams, McGowan, Poole, Alexandria Albano and Majdalani all had straight sets victories.

Duquesne (5-8, 2-0) returns to Atlantic 10 Conference play on Friday afternoon when they host the Temple Owls. Match time is at 4:00 p.m.
