PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne lacrosse team dropped a 15-11 decision to Denver on Sunday afternoon. Senior Shannon Hadaway tied her career-high with four goals and freshman Alicia Krause added three goals for the Dukes who fell to 0-4 on the season.
Denver's Meghan Carver led the Pioneers with a match-best five points.
The Pioneers came out of the gates by scoring nine of the first 10 goals in the first half. The Dukes closed the scoring in the opening half on goals by Meghan Frederick and Hadaway, taking a 9-3 deficit into halftime.
After Denver's Steph Coyne scored 1:38 into the second half, Duquesne responded with four straight goals - two by Krause and one each by Hadaway and Ashley Wood - to cut the Denver lead to three goals at 10-7 with 16:21 remaining in the match.
Denver answered with four straight goals to increase their lead to seven goals at the 10:16 mark.
Duquesne went on another run as Frederick set up Sarah Cates for her first goal of the season. Wood and Hadaway scored 2:28 apart to make the score 14-9. Denver added a late goal from Lexi Sanders before Krause completed their hat trick closing out the scoring with 21 seconds to play.
The Dukes hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to visit Canisius. Duquesne returns to Rooney Field on Mar. 11 to host Bucknell.
