Pittsburgh, Pa. – Two program records highlighted the afternoon for the Duquesne University lacrosse team on Saturday at Rooney Field. A late rally fell short in a 16–14 Atlantic 10 loss to George Mason.
Junior
Gracin Emerson became Duquesne's single-season assist leader late in the first quarter, recording her 45th assist on a goal by
Megan Marco to break Meghan Frederick's 2009 record. Emerson finished with three assists, pushing her season total to 47 with six regular-season games still remaining.
Freshman
Madison Welch set a single-game program record with 15 draw controls, leading the Dukes to a 21–11 advantage in the circle. It marked Welch's second record-setting performance of her rookie campaign.
Mia Piocquidio led the Dukes offensively with a career-high five goals, adding one assist for a team-best six points while placing seven shots on goal.
Emma Raines recorded four goals, giving her a team-leading six hat tricks this season, while
Chelsea Evans added three goals for her third hat trick of the year. Marco and
Addison Scanlon each scored once.
Duquesne used a 4–2 second quarter to enter halftime tied at 7–7 after an early George Mason lead. The Patriots built a five-goal advantage in the third, but the Dukes rallied in the fourth, outscoring George Mason 4–1. Emerson set up Piocquidio to make it a two-goal game with four minutes to play; however, Duquesne could get no closer.
The Dukes were 5-for-6 from the free-position arc. Piocquidio went 2-for-2, while Scanlon, Raines and Evans each converted their lone attempts.
