PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's tennis team swept the Atlantic 10 honors this week when junior Rachel McGowan was named women's tennis performer of the week and freshman Tara Majdalani was named women's tennis rookie of the week.
This is the first-ever POW award for McGowan who was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Martina Featherston from Fordham at #2 singles. She, along with Zena Williams, was an 8-5 winner at #1 doubles over Featherston and Dominique Liguori. The duo sport a perfect 8-0 this season.
Majdalani, who has an impressive 6-3 singles record in her first year with the Dukes, was a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 winner over Fordham's Jane Carroll. She teamed with Alexandria Albano at #3 doubles and defeated Carroll and Brittany Russell 8-2.
The last time Duquesne was honored with both the performer of the week and rookie of the week was March 17 of last year when Johanna Bezjak was named performer and Williams rookie.
Duquesne (1-2) will host Bucknell (2-1) on Feb. 7. Match time is 1:00 p.m. at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville.
