MONROEVILLE - The Duquesne women's tennis team won its first match of the season Saturday afternoon after their 5-2 victory over Fordham.
Duquesne swept through the doubles point with Zena Williams and Rachel McGowan defeating Dominique Liguori and Martina Featherston 8-5 at #1 doubles. The #2 doubles team of Rebecca Poole and Samantha Noble were 8-3 winners over Bethany Boyle and Sarah Tremaine. Tara Majdalani and Alexandria Albano took out Jane Carroll and Brittany Russell 8-2 at #3 doubles.
The Dukes won four of the six singles matches. Williams fell to Liguori 6-7, 7-6 (10-5) at #1 singles. McGowan was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at #2 singles over Featherston. Poole defeated Tremaine at #3 singles 6-2, 6-2. Boyle upended Noble 6-4, 6-4 at #4 singles. Majdalani easily handled Carroll 6-1, 6-0 at #5 singles. Albano was a 6-4, 3-6 (10-8) winner over Kathryn Silva at #6 singles.
Duquesne (1-2) will host Bucknell (2-1) on Feb. 7. Match time is 1:00 p.m. at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville.
