PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's tennis team will open their 2009 season this weekend when they face a Mid-American Conference schools in Bowling Green and Toledo. Friday's match against the Falcons starts at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday's match against the Rockets begins at 1:00 p.m. Both matches are at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville.
DU is coming off their best-ever Atlantic 10 Conference seeding, fourth, and finished the 2007-08 season 13-7.
Duquesne had early success during the Fall semester at the Carnegie Mellon Individual Invite and WVU Martha Thorn Invitational.
"This weekend will be a good test for us," said head coach Joe Camillo. "Both Bowling Green and Toledo are competitive teams." BGSU was the 2008 MAC Championship runner-up and Toledo finished third in the MAC.
The Dukes return their top three singles players in Zena Williams, Rachel McGowan and Rebecca Poole as well as Alexandria Albano and Lanna Buehler who will see time at doubles. New faces on the squad this year are freshmen Tara Majdalani, Samantha Noble and Stephanie Novakowski.
