Dukes Blank Youngstown State 7-0

Results MONROEVILLE - The Duquesne women's tennis team recorded their fifth shutout of the season as the swept past Youngstown State 7-0 Tuesday afternoon. The win improved the Dukes to 6-4, 2-1 on the season.

Zena Williams continued her winning ways at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Anna Volkova. Johanna Bezjak held off YSU's Tanisha Welch 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Rebecca Poole defeated Emily Thayer 6-2, 6-1.

Rachel McGowan was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 4 singles over Irena Lanc. Andrea Sailer defeated Kelly Culbertson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Kristen Swenson took No. 6 singles over Hannah Patten 6-4, 6-2.

DU easily swept the double point, yielding only 10 games in the three matches. Bezjak and McGowan were 8-5 winners at No. 1 doubles, Poole and Williams took No. 2 double 8-2 and Alexandria Albano and Sailer won at No. 3 doubles 8-3.

The Dukes have one of their toughest weekends coming up as they wrap up conference play against Dayton on Friday and Xavier on Saturday. The Dukes and Flyers begin at 5:00 p.m. and DU and XU start at 1:00 p.m.
