COLUMBUS - Janna Faulkner scored a career-high five goals, but back-to-back second half goals from Ohio State's Jacqueline Orona proved to be the difference as the Dukes fell to the Buckeyes 14-10 Tuesday afternoon.
Down 2-0 early, Duquesne's Shannon Hadaway scored the first of her three goals with 22:07 remaining in the half.
Faulkner broke a 5-5 tie on a free position shot with less than five minutes remaining in the half, giving the Dukes their final lead of the game. OSU closed out the first half scoring with goals from Kelly Haggerty and Brittney Zerhausen to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.
The Buckeyes scored twice in the first 1:48 of the second half to extend their lead to 9-6. Katie Rekart scored her first career goal on a free position shot less than a minute later
Faulkner's free position shot found the back of the net with 21:08 remaining to get DU within one goal, but Orona scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, less than a minute apart to solidify the victory for OSU.
The high-scoring game featured 56 total shots, 29 by Ohio State and 27 by Duquesne. The Dukes picked up 13 ground balls to the Buckeyes 10. OSU had four more draw controls, 15-11, than the Dukes. Both teams had six free position shots with Ohio State connecting on three and Duquesne two.
Liz Walker made 11 saves in her fist career-start and Kat McNish had all three of the Dukes' assists.
Duquesne heads out to Denver, Colo. for a pair of games. Sunday Feb. 24, the Dukes take on Stony Brook. Two days later, DU faces the University of Denver.
