Duquesne's men's soccer team dropped a 5-3 decision to Canisius, Friday afternoon in Buffalo. Ben Horner, who fired a match-high 11 shots, scored twice for the Red and Blue.
The Dukes opened the scoring a little more than four minutes into the contest as Drew Jeffery found the back of the net off a Stefan Lundberg assist for a 1-0 Duquesne lead.
Canisius responded with a goal just four minutes later, then again in the 29th minute to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
The Dukes answered in the 61st minute as Horner kicked in his fourth goal of the season from Tyler Tompkins to knot the game at two, but the Golden Griffins took the lead back just 18 seconds later before moving the lead to two goals with another score in the 66th minute.
The never-say-die Dukes cut the lead to one in the 73rd minute as Horner buried his team-leading fifth goal off of Jeffery's assist, but CC scored again in the 86th minute to capture the win.
The Red and Blue outshot the Griffs with a season-high 25 shots to just 10 and had an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Dukes return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 as they host Temple at 7:30 in the Atlantic 10 opener.
