Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team stepped outside Atlantic 10 play Tuesday, dropping a non-conference match to No. 7 Pitt, 2-1, at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Dukes dipped to 6-3-2 (.636) overall during the 2026 season with the setback.
ON AND ON AND ON
Duquesne struck first, grabbing a 1-0 lead courtesy of redshirt senior
Ashwin Menon. A battle in the corner of the box, senior
Blaize Hardy got off a shot that was blocked by two Pitt defenders. The ball trickled over to Menon, who settled the ball before unleashing a shot that beat Pitt goalkeeper Jack Moxom at 7:49 to give the Dukes the early lead. It was part of an opening flurry for Duquesne, which controlled the pace and was able to keep pressure on early to grab the lead. For Menon, it marked his second goal of the 2026 season.
THE EQUALIZER AND ONE MORE
Pitt was in search of the equalizer just three minutes later after the strike from Menon, but redshirt senior goalkeeper
Sam Coss made a save on a shot from Anders Bordoy from roughly 15 yards out. The ball bounced back out, but Mamadou Tall was unable to convert, as his attempt on the rebound was high of the crossbar. Bordoy, however, was able to take advantage of a second opportunity early in the second half. A turnover near midfield gave the Panthers numbers, and with space Bordoy fired a shot with his left foot that Coss was unable to track down at 55:10 to tie the score. Pitt was able to tack on the game-winning goal just over five minutes later. Cannon Scretchen broke free from a Duquesne defender on the far side and lifted a ball into the box, with Albert Thorsen providing a header that found the bottom right corner of the goal to give the Panthers a 2-1 edge at 60:27.
