Duquesne Shines at St. Bonaventure

Dukes move into tie atop Atlantic 10 table with URI with 15 points

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team earned its fourth consecutive victory in Atlantic 10 play Wednesday, soaring to a 4-0 win over St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y., at the Tom and Michelle Mara Athletics Field Complex. In clinching their sixth consecutive winning season, the Dukes improved to 8-3-2 (.692) overall during the 2026 campaign, including 5-1 (.833) in conference play. In addition, the victory moves Duquesne atop the A10 table with 15 points, tied with Rhode Island. The Rams dropped a 3-2 decision Wednesday at home to Dayton to slip to 5-2 (.714) in conference action.

QUICK STRIKE
It didn't take long for the Dukes to set the tone against the Bonnies. St. Bonaventure earned the kickoff and after a turnover in the midfield caused by junior forward Roni Badler, Duquesne went on the attack. Badler raced down the near sideline before placing a cross into the middle to redshirt sophomore Jameson Michel, who buried a strike into the lower right corner of the goal just 20 seconds into the contest to open the scoring. It marks the quickest goal in 14 seasons under head coach Chase Brooks, eclipsing the opening score 49 seconds into a contest against Dayton (3/17/21) at Rooney Field. That goal was scored by Logan Muck on a feed from Ryan Landry in a game that was part of a seven-game spring season played due to the global pandemic.

A SECOND SWELL
Duquesne found the back of the net three times in the first half in its last game, a 3-0 triumph over Davidson (10/17), and decided to turn the trick Wednesday, this time in the second 45 minutes. The Dukes grabbed a 2-0 edge at 46:34, as a shot from sophomore Hákon Dagur Matthíasson toward the goal was redirected by St. Bonaventure defender Josh Seyer into the net for an own goal. Duquesne continued to apply pressure, with Badler again in the middle of another push. Again forcing a turnover near midfield, Badler surged down the far sideline. SBU goalkeeper Maarten Schouten came out to try and slow the attack from Badler, who faked a shot before sliding the ball to junior Dan Banks, who connected for his first career goal at 64:25.

EXCLAMATION POINT
Senior Cody Da put the exclamation point on the victory for Duquesne just over eight minutes after the first career strike for Banks. Senior Sergios Feneridis pushed a shot wide that Da was able to corral with his right foot behind Schouten and in one motion tapped the ball in with his left foot to earn his team-high sixth goal of 2026 at 72:28 to clinch the win. In addition to Da adding on to his team-high total for goals, Banks became the 10th different Duquesne student-athlete to find the back of the net, while the two assists for Badler pushes his season total to three, tied for team-high honors with redshirt senior Jaxon Ervin.
