Gina Oliver Named Women's Assistant Lacrosse Coach

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University head women's lacrosse coach Michael Scerbo has named Gina Oliver the first full-time assistant coach in the program's 11-year history.

Oliver comes to Duquesne from Ohio State where she was an assistant coach for the past two seasons. The Buckeyes finished the 2007 campaign ranked 19th by LaxPower.com.

"We are extremely excited to have Gina Oliver joining the women's lacrosse program at Duquesne University. I had the pleasure of coaching Gina for four years and now I am thrilled to be able to work with her on the field," said Scerbo. "Her playing and coaching experience will allow her to come in as our defensive coordinator and have an immediate impact on our program."

Oliver was a stand-out midfielder at Ohio State (2002-2005) prior to her coaching stint.

"First off, I want to thank the Duquesne administration for this opportunity. I am extremely excited to join the Duquesne staff and be able to work for a great group of people," Oliver said. "To have the opportunity to work with coach Scerbo again has been a dream for me, and I'm elated. I hope to bring to Duquesne new flavor and hope to be able to help them become one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10."

As a player, Oliver was a four-year letterwinner with the Buckeyes and earned All-America honors three times. She was named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association/U.S. Lacrosse second team All-American in 2003 and was a third team selection in 2004. Oliver was a first-team womenslacrosse.com All-American in 2003 and a third-team selection in 2005. Oliver was a first-team selection Warrior/Inside Lacrosse All-American selection in 2003. She was the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year in 2003 as Ohio State won the American Lacrosse Conference Championship and the Rookie of the Year in 2002. Oliver was a four-time, first-team ALC All-Conference selection.

The Pottstown, Pa. native is OSU's all-time career leader in ground balls (236) and caused turnovers (201) and is second in draw controls (121). She is third in career points with 166 while ranking second in goals (125) and sixth in assists (41). Oliver has trained and played with the 2004-05 and 2005-06 U.S. Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team and was a member of the 2006-07 U.S. Women's Elite Team.
