Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University lacrosse team earned its first Atlantic 10 victory of the season with a 10–8 win over La Salle on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Rooney Field.
Senior
Chelsea Evans scored two goals, including a late fourth-quarter tally that helped seal the win. Fellow seniors
Emma Raines and
Chloe Holmes also scored twice, with Raines recording her 10th multi-goal game of the season.
Mia Piocquidio added two goals and one assist, while
Megan Marco had a goal and an assist and
Gracin Emerson finished with one goal and four assists.
After a back-and-forth start, the Dukes closed the first half on a 4–0 run to take a 6–5 lead into the break. Emerson scored once and added two assists during the stretch.
Emerson totaled five points on a goal and four assists, pushing her season totals to 69 points and 59 assists.
La Salle trimmed a 9–6 Duquesne lead to 9–8 with 9:16 to play, but the Dukes' defense held the rest of the way. Evans added an insurance goal with under two minutes remaining.
Ella Roach made a season-high 14 saves, including four in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory.
Duquesne controlled key possession moments, winning 12 draws behind
Madison Welch's nine. The Dukes also caused 13 turnovers, led by Evans' game-high five, with nine players recording at least one.
Welch now ranks second on Duquesne's single-season leaderboard with 85 draw controls as a freshman with three games remaining.
