Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's lacrosse team fell 13–11 to Youngstown State on Wednesday afternoon at Rooney Field.
The Dukes started fast, scoring three times in the opening five minutes.
Gracin Emerson opened the scoring and added an assist on a goal by
Chloe Holmes.
Emma Raines also scored on a pass from
Ali Evans to help Duquesne build a 5–2 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Emerson recorded her first hat trick of the season with a third-quarter goal that gave Duquesne a 10–7 advantage. She also dished out three assists, pushing her record-breaking season total to 55, and has now recorded multiple assists in all 12 games this year.
Youngstown State used a 6–1 fourth quarter to take control and secure the win.
Ali Evans converted a free-position attempt to cut the deficit to one with 58 seconds remaining, but the ensuing draw went to the Penguins.
Chelsea Evans and Holmes each finished with two goals, while
Emma Raines,
Ali Evans,
Mia Piocquidio and
Megan Marco added one apiece as seven Dukes found the back of the net.
The Dukes controlled the draw circle, winning 16-of-25 draws, with
Madison Welch leading the way with 12. It marked her third game this season with double-digit draw controls.
Defensively,
Casey McBride caused three turnovers and collected three ground balls. As a team, Duquesne forced 14 turnovers, including 10 caused, and picked up 18 ground balls.
