Duquesne senior wide receiver Bruce Hocker (Upper Marlboro, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) has been named to the College Sporting News 2007 NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-American Team.
Hocker, who led the FCS in receiving yards per game (107.0) and touchdown receptions (16) last year, was named to the third team. The Upper Marlboro, Md. native is one of just four players from the mid-major level named to the 75-man squad.
The 6-4, 205-pound Hocker came back from a broken collarbone that limited him to three games played as a sophomore to catch 61 passes for 1,070 yards and 16 touchdowns and earn consensus All-American honors for the 7-3 Dukes in 2006. In addition to leading the nation in receiving yards per game and touchdown catches, he also posted the most points per game by a receiver (9.6). In the process, he joined current Cleveland Browns defensive back Leigh Bodden (1999-02) as the only other player in school history be be named Associated Press I-AA All-America and AFCA Division I-AA Coaches All-America as a junior.
Hocker, who was one of nine FCS pass-catchers with over 1,000 yards in 2006, enters his senior season first among FCS returning receivers in career yards per catch (17.8) and tied for second in career touchdown receptions (24).
Duquesne opens the 2007 at home versus Bucknell on Saturday, Sept. 1.
