2007 Football Schedule Released

April 18, 2007

A non-conference schedule that features four Northeast Conference schools, a long-time Patriot League opponent and a first-ever matchup against an Ivy League power highlight the 10-game 2007 Duquesne University football schedule released today.

Third-year head coach Jerry Schmitt's Dukes, who return 16 starters from last year's 7-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League championship squad, open the season with back-to-back home games versus Bucknell (Sept. 1) and Robert Morris (Sept. 8). This will be the ninth time in 11 seasons that the Dukes and Bison, members of the Patriot League, will meet.

In week two, Duquesne hosts the first of four NEC opponents when cross-town rival Robert Morris visits on Sept. 8. This will be the final time the Dukes and Colonials will meet in a non-conference game as Duquesne will be making the move to the NEC for the 2008 season.

DU opens the road season at Providence, R.I. against 2005 Ivy League champion Brown on September 15. The match-up, which is the first ever between Duquesne and Brown, is the season-opener for the Bears who are kicking off their 130th season.

The Dukes stay on the road to face the NEC's Sacred Heart Pioneers on September 22 before closing out the month with the MAAC opener against Saint Peter's on September 29. The Saint Peter's game - in addition to being Homecoming - is also the Dukes' last home game until November 10.

Duquesne will spend the entire month of October on the road beginning with a conference game at Marist on October 6. The Dukes will then head to Loretto, Pa. for a non-conference game at Saint Francis, Pa. (NEC) before an off week on October 20. Duquesne finishes the month with a MAAC game at Iona on October 27.

DU will be off again on November 3 prior to its final game as a member of the MAAC against La Salle at Rooney Field on November 10. Duquesne has won 10 of the past 12 MAAC championships including the last eight in a row.

The Dukes close out the 2007 campaign with their fourth game against a future conference opponent when they head to West Long Branch, N.J. to face the NEC's Monmouth Hawks on November 17.
