SOUTH BEND, IND. - Duquesne fell to 4-5 on the season after they fell to Notre Dame 15-7 Sunday afternoon. Sarah Cates netted two goals for the Red & Blue while Kathleen McNish had a team-high three points. ND's Jillian Byers led the game with four goals and tied the game-high with teammate Meghan Murphy as each had five points.
The Dukes fell behind 8-0 in the first half and did not the on the board until the 6:10 mark of the first quarter when Cates put a shot past Irish keeper Erin Goodman.
Cates and Janna Faulkner closed out the scoring in the first stanza as DU went into the half trailing 8-3.
Duquesne narrowed the gap to 8-5 as Courtney Tamasitis and Sarah Carson started the scoring in the second half. The three goal margin would be as close as the Dukes could get as the Irish scored seven of the next nine goals to end the contest 15-7.
Notre Dame (9-2) out shot Duquesne by a 31-24 margin and had eight more ground balls (31-23) than the Dukes. Goodman had eight saves for ND while the freshman combination of Caitlin Carducci and Megan Holleran combined for four saves.
The Dukes head to Buffalo, N.Y. on Thursday as they take on Canisius at 6:00 p.m before they open Atlantic 10 play at Rooney Field against Saint Joseph's April 13.
