PITTSBURGH - Duquesne sophomore quarterback Kevin Rombach (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and senior linebacker John Simmons (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for their performances in Duquesne's 37-10 win over Frostburg State on Saturday.
Rombach, making second consecutive start, completed 25-of-35 passes for 343 yards and three touchdowns and added a five-yard touchdown run in leading the Dukes to a season-high 532 yards of total offense. Rombach, who has topped the 300-yard passing mark in back-to-back games, enters this weekend's game at Marist ranked sixth nationally in total offense at 308.33 ypg. He has completed 69.9 percent of his passes and has a 156.40 efficiency rating for a Duquesne offense that ranks fourth nationally in passing offense at 317.9 yards per game.
Simmons, the MAAC preseason Defensive Player of the Year, tied for game high with 11 tackles (nine solo) including a tackle for loss against Frostburg State. He also forced one of three FSU fumbles. Simmons ranks tied for 13th nationally with 11.0 tackles per game.
Duquesne (2-2), winner of two in a row, begins defense of its MAAC title this weekend when it heads to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to face Marist (0-5) in the league-opener for both schools. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
