Duquesne senior safety Todd Mills (South Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and freshman defensive end Mykol Gardiner (Cleveland, Ohio/Benedictine) were both honored by Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League for their performances in DU's 27-7 win at Robert Morris on Saturday.
Mills, a two-time first team All-MAAC pick, was named Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Dukes with nine tackles at RMU. The 5-10, 200-pounder also intercepted a pass at the one-yard-line and returned it 41 yards early in the fourth quarter to set up DU's final field goal.
Gardiner, a first-year starter, recorded two of Duquesne's six sacks and also forced a pair of fumbles in the win to earn co-Rookie of the Week honors.
Duquesne (1-1), ranked No. 6 in The Sports Network Mid-Major Top 10, takes on its second consecutive Northeast Conference opponent when tenth-ranked Saint Francis, Pa. (1-1) visits the Bluff on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The game is the home opener for the Dukes.
