Durham, North Carolina - No. 2 Duke outscored Duquesne 14-2 in the first half and went on to claim a 19-8 victory over the Dukes on Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.
Eight Dukes scored unassisted goals: Meg Cloutman, Keri Drexel, Krista Mann, Kelley McAuliffe, Kelly Mulford, Alison Smith, Courtney Tamasitis and Ashley Wood.
The Blue Devils (4-0) got off to a fast start, scoring six goals over a nine-minute span. Duquesne (2-2) got on the board at the 20:40 mark with a goal by Krista Mann, a senior from Wooster, Ohio, but Duke answered with eight consecutive goals before Alison Smith, a Bel Air, Md. senior, put one in with four seconds left in the first half to bring the score to 14-2. The Dukes had a more productive second half with six goals. The Blue Devil's offense netted five insurance scores to close out the game with a 19-8 win.
Katie Chrest led all scorers with five goals and also tallied two assists to give her a season-high seven points for the game. Megan Huether had seven saves in 42:35 minutes. Kim Imbesi and Regan Bosch also saw time in net for the Atlantic Coast Conference team.
Meredith Norris played all 60 minutes in goal for Duquesne, recording seven saves in the loss.
Last season, the Dukes opened the 2004-05 schedule at then number 4 Duke. The result was a 16-4 Blue Devil win on February 18, 2005.
Duquesne returns to action on Sunday, March 12th with a game at the Northeast Conference's Monmouth University (0-1) on the Hawks' Kessler Field at 1:00 p.m.
