Lacrosse Wins Fourth-Straight

The Duquesne women's lacrosse team won its fourth straight taking visiting Robert Morris 19-7 Tuesday evening in a non-conference bout on Rooney Field. Duquesne (6-2) was led seniors Kelly Mulford and Alison Smith with five goals apiece while Kathleen McNish assisted on a game-best three scores. Senior Krista Mann led the game with six draws won, six caused turnovers and six ground balls. Meredith Norris recorded three saves on 10 shots. Robert Morris (2-7) was led by Jennifer Collins' three scores and two goals by Ashleigh Borsody. Keeper Kelly Dreisch stopped 12 shots for the Colonials.

Duquesne took a 3-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play with an unassisted goal by Ashley Wood, a Mulford goal from McNish and free position goal from Courtney Tamasitis. Jillian Howley put Robert Morris on the board with an unassisted goal at 10:04 before Borsody brought the game to a 3-2 reach at 15:10. Caroline Gallagher and Alison Smith scored four of the Dukes' five unanswered over a six minute span to up their lead to an 8-2 edge at the 22:07 mark. Collins stopped a seven-minute scoring drought for the Colonials in the 22nd minute for an 8-3 reach before the Red & Blue closed out the first frame with two goals by Mulford and one from smith for an 11-3 halftime advantage. Duquesne out-shot the Colonials 24-5 in the first half and won 10 draws to RMU's five.

Mulford found the back of the cage from McNish's feed with just :29 into the second frame and McNish notched an unassisted score a minute later for a 13-3 DU lead with just 1:30 off the clock. Wood's unassisted goal at 6:17 gave DU a 14-4 margin before Robert Morris notched two scores for a 14-5 deficit at the 13:04 mark. Duquesne would out-score the Colonials 5-2 afterward with two goals from Smith and one each from Keri Drexel, Kelley McAuliffe and Mulford for the 19-7 victory.

Duquesne held a 36-22 edge in ground balls and 19-8 edge in draws won. The Dukes also forced 20 of Robert Morris' 31 turnovers.

The Dukes close out the week hosting Ohio State this Friday at 4:00 pm in a non-conference bout.
