Buffalo Tops DU Women's Tennis, 7-0

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Duquesne University's women's tennis team dropped it's second straight match of the spring 2006 schedule as visiting Buffalo shut out the Red and Blue, 7-0, Saturday. The Dukes are 2-2 since the new year and 3-2 overall.

Junior Jacqueline Hughes (McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport) forced the Bulls' Kristen Ortman to a tiebreaker at number 2 singles via a second set 7-5 win. The players battled into extra time before Orten pulled out a 13-11 game victory.

The doubles team of sophomore Andrea Sailer (Tucson, Ariz. / Salpointe Catholic) and junior Ciara McDermott (Columbus, Ohio / The Wellington School) also took their match to a sudden death game against Miglena Nenova and Smaranda Stan. The UB duo grabbed a 7-5 tiebreaker victory to claim the 9-8 decision.

The Dukes head to Orlando, Florida next weekend for their annual trip into warmer climes. While in Orlando, DU will take on James Madison (Mon. Mar. 6), Bowling Green (Tues. Mar. 7) and then travel to Daytonna Beach for a match with Bethune-Cookman on Thursday, March 9, 2006.
