Dayton, Ohio - Duquesne (10-16, 5-10) snapped a four-game losing skid with a 70-55 victory at Dayton (16-10, 8-7) Friday night in an Atlantic 10 contest. Jocelyn Chandler led four Dukes in double figures with a career-best 18 points. Carmen Bruce added a DU career-best 13 points while Loui Hall added 11 and Nicole Sinclair 10 points. Hall and Sinclair led the Dukes with five rebounds. Cara Wright paced Dayton with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Bruce took the opening tip to the hoop sparking a 7-0 opening run for Duquesne which would hold a 9-2 lead at 15:48. Dayton remained scoreless until Cara Wright's lay-up at 16:48. The host Flyers suffered poor shooting in the beginning minutes hitting just 2-8 (.250), which assisted in the Dukes taking an 11-4 lead at 14:10. Duquesne connected on 5-12 (.420) during that span. The teams would trade baskets with the Dukes holding at least a five point lead until Dayton hit back-to-back three point goals to get within a 15-14 reach at 9:09. Loui Hall hit two free throws shortly afterward for a 17-14 cushion, but the Flyers hit two quick buckets to take their first lead of the game, 18-17, at 6:56. It wouldn't last long as Kristi Little and Brittany Warren hit back-to-back threes leading a 16-0 Duquesne run for a 33-18 lead as the Flyers went cold going 5:24 scoreless minutes. Wright stopped the UD suffering at 5:24, but Duquesne would take a 36-23 cushion into the half. The Flyers held a 19-13 rebounding edge in the opening frame, but were out-shot .370 (10-27) to .500 (14-28). The Flyers committed 14 turnovers, which resulted in 17 Duquesne points.
Chandler opened the second half with a three point goal setting the tone for the Red & Blue who would not let the Flyers closer than a 14-point reach (29-43). Dayton trailed 49-34 at the 12:57 mark and the Dukes gained their first 20-point edge of the game on an 8-0 run - in less than a minute - as Bruce started the spree with a jumper and lay-up off a steal before Chandler was fouled on her three-pointer for the four-point play. DU led 57-34 as 11:05 remained. The Flyers would not get closer.
Dayton held a 29-28 rebounding edge and Duquesne had 12 steals to the Flyers' nine in the win. The Dukes connected on 26-52 (.500) from the field and Dayton shot 21-50 (.420). Duquesne went 13-14 from the free throw line led by Chandler's 6-6 effort.
The Dukes close out the regular season this Sunday hosting St. Bonaventure in a 2:00 pm tip for Senior Day at the Palumbo Center.
