Duquesne University junior receiver Bruce Hocker (Upper Marlboro, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt), who was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference co-Offensive Player of the Year on Dec. 1, was named to the 26-man The Sports Network 2006 I-AA Mid-Major All-America Team announced today. Hocker was the only MAAC player named to the team.
In addition, Duquesne, which finished 7-3 in earning a tie for its eighth consecutive MAAC title, ended up ranked sixth in the final The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major Top 10.
The 6-4, 190-pound Hocker caught 61 passes for 1,070 yards and school record-tying 16 touchdowns in 2006. Hocker leads the nation (as of Dec. 3) in receiving yards per game (107.0), touchdown catches (tied for first with 16) and points per game by a receiver (9.6). His touchdown total tied the DU school record set by Reggie Harris in 2000.
