Dec. 14, 2006
The honors continue to roll in for Duquesne University junior receiver Bruce Hocker (Upper Marlboro, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt), who was named to the 2006 Associated Press I-AA All-America second team released Wednesday.
Hocker, a third team pick, was named to the AFCA I-AA All-America team on Dec. 12 and The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major All-America Team on Dec. 4. He was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference co-Offensive Player of the Year on Dec. 1.
Hocker's selection marks the fourth time in the past six years DU has had a player named to the AP All-America team. The 6-4, 190-pound junior joins specialist Joe Rosato (1996), linebacker Matt Fisher (1998), current Cleveland Browns defensive back Leigh Bodden (2001 & 2002) and career sacks record holder Antoine Bullock (2005) as the only Dukes ever named to the squad.
Hocker, one of five Mid-Major players named to the 2006 AP team, caught 61 passes for 1,070 yards and a school record-tying 16 touchdowns in 2006. He leads the nation (as of Dec. 10) in receiving yards per game (107.0), touchdown catches (tied for first with 16) and points per game by a receiver (9.6). His touchdown total tied the DU school record set by Reggie Harris in 2000.
