Day Two of Bucknell Invite Adjusted As Well

Oct. 1, 2006

Complete Results

Duquesne would win five of its matches in the revamped Bucknell Invitational Saturday after rain forced several changes in the schedule. The end result was the cancellation of Sunday's activities.

In Flight A Singles, junior Johanna Bezjak advanced to the quarterfinals by default as Marist's Cassandra Strange withdrew due to illness. The bracket would not be completed on Sunday - as was the case with all singles play.

Sophomore Rebecca Poole defeated Chelsea Johnson of Mount St. Mary's 3-6, 6-3 (10-3) to also advance in the winner's bracket while freshman Rachel McGowan defeated Loyola's Lauren Cassle 6-0, 6-1 in the Flight B consolation action.

Flight C and D singles would not commence from the first day's activity.

Flight A doubles play saw McGowan and Bezjak go 2-1 defeating Toledo's Guirguis / Belsky 8-3 and Villanova's Williamson / Walters 8-1. They would fall in a hard-fought 9-7 battle against the host's Gamboe / Calcaterro. Alexandra Albano and Rebecca Poole defeated MSM's Muething / Hallahan 8-3 before falling to Toledo's Wodsinski / Cueva 8-5.

Alicia McNamara / Renee Niklewicz received a first round bye and fell 8-4 to Villanova's Phillis / Lostritto.

Duquesne returns to action Oct. 7-9 at the West Virginia Tournament.
