Duquesne University head women's tennis coach Joe Camillo announced today his 2005-06 recruiting class. Signing National Letters of Intent for this coming season are Alexandria Albano (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East), Abigail Ball (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) and Rebecca Poole (Swindon, Wiltshire, UK/New College, Swindon).
Albano helped lead her squad to a perfect 36-0 dual-match record over her high school career and her Williamsville East squad won the divisional title each of her four years as well. The scholar-athlete also competed in the New York Section VI competition. Academically, Albano was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) which took first in the district and competed in the state meet for Public Speaking. She plans to major in international business.
Ball helped lead her Bishop Guilfoyle squad to the 2003 and 2004 PIAA District 6 team championship crown and paced the team with a 33-6 record over her junior and senior seasons. Ball competed in nine District 6 championship matches where she captured three doubles titles, two team crowns and was a singles finalist four times. A second team all-state pick as a junior, she was a bronze medal winner at the PA State Doubles Championship and was also tabbed a 2003 and 2004 Mountain Athletic Conference All-Star. She plans major in speech-language pathology.
Poole, whose New College did not sponsor tennis, competed at the club and state level in Wiltshire where she was ranked No. 1 in the U18 division and 48th nationally by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) this past year. She was the main draw at U15 Nationals and advanced to the quarterfinals at the U18 competition. Poole was third in the 2003-04 National Winter Indoor Series and has won state and doubles championship titles at each age level. She currently has a 3.2 LTA rating. Poole is looking to major in sports marketing.
