Sept. 20, 2004
Duquesne running back James Jacobs (Norristown, Va./Downington) and cornerback Michael Ford (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) were named MAAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their performances in Duquesne's 45-7 win over Georgetown on Saturday. Jacobs and Ford are the fifth and sixth DU players to be honored (of a possible nine) in the three weeks the MAAC has handed out its individual awards.
Jacobs carried 25 times for a career-best 186 yards (including a 65-yard TD) against the Hoyas. His 186-yard afternoon stands as the eighth-best rushing game by a I-AA back this season.
Ford returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown, forced two fumbles, recovered a fumble and was credited with three passes broken up against the Hoyas. He also added five tackles as the Dukes forced a total of eight Georgetown turnovers.
Jacobs joins quarterback Niel Loebig who was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6, while Ford follows Armar Watson, who earned MAAC defensive honors also on Sept. 6.
In addition, Bruce Hocker (Sept. 6) and David Kovalcik (Sept. 13) have each been named league rookie of the week one time.
