Dukes' Track & Field Third After A-10 Day One

Richmond, Va. - Duquesne's women's outdoor track and field team is in third place after the first day of nine-team 2004 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Women's Track & Field Championships at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond.

Junior Sarah Fetterman (Elysburg, Pa. / Southern Columbia) tied her own school record while winning the pole vault competition with a jump of 3.30 meters (10' 10.00"). Sophomore Melissa Stewart's (Indiana, Pa. / Indiana) toss of 43.32 meters (142' 1") was good for second in the discuss throw.

The Dukes also took two third places with senior Carrie Hucko's (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) time of 38:29.50 in the 10,000 meter run and classmate Erica DaCosta's (Hudson, NH / Alvirne) javelin throw of 39.59 meters (129' 11").

The championship tournament concludes on Sunday with the first event at 8:45 a.m.
