Duquesne University cornerback Michael Ford (Clinton, Md. / Oxon Hill) and freshman receiver Bruce Hocker (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Eleanor Roosevelt) were both honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League for their performances in Duquesne's 56-35 win at La Salle on Saturday.
Hocker was named Rookie of the Week for the third time this season - and second time in the last two weeks - for his four-catch, 89-yard outing. Hocker, who is averaging a team-high 17.0 yards per catch, hauled in a 15-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to give the Dukes a 42-28 lead. Hocker now has caught at least one touchdown pass in seven of Duquesne's eight games.
Ford was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after breaking a 28-28 tie with a 70-yard touchdown in a third quarter interception return. It was his second return for a score this season. Later in the quarter, Ford stripped the ball from a La Salle receiver to set up Hocker's touchdown reception. Ford, who has four interceptions on the season, finished the game with 10 tackles.
Duquesne (6-2, 4-0), the 2004 MAAC champion, puts its 15-game home winning streak on the line versus Pioneer Football League South champion Morehead State (6-4, 2-1) in a nonconference game on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Rooney Field. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. (WKFB-AM 770 & www.RedZoneMedia.com locally).
