Tolan named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week

Oct. 11, 2004

Duquesne University senior defensive end Ryan Tolan (LaVerne, Calif./Bonita) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Dukes' 42-14 win over Iona on Saturday.

Tolan, who made the move from outside linebacker to defensive end prior to the season, posted three sacks for minus 25 yards to spearhead an outstanding team defensive performance. Four of Tolan's 7 total tackles were behind the line of scrimmage for the Dukes who held Iona to minus 9 yards rushing on 35 attempts.

Tolan is the seventh different Duquesne player to be honored by the league in the six weeks MAAC awards have been handed out.

Tolan leads the team with 6.0 sacks for minus 31 yards on the season, and is tied with sophomore linebacker Michael Hill for the team lead with 8 tackles for loss.

Duquesne (3-2, 1-0) puts its nation's-best 30-game MAAC Football League win streak on the line at Saint Peter's (1-4, 0-2) on Saturday.

Kickoff for the DU/SPC game is set for 12:00 p.m. (WKFB-AM 770 locally).
