DUKES TAKE ON BUTLER IN HOME OPENER

Duquesne, which opened the season with a 28-21 loss at Bucknell on Aug. 30, plays its first home game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 13 when the Pioneer League's Butler Bulldogs pay a visit to Rooney Field. The game, set for a 7:00 p.m. kick, will air locally on WBGG-AM 970, and will be streamed over the internet at www.RedZoneMedia.com. The Dukes will be looking to bounce back against a Butler team that opened the season with a 42-6 loss at Division II Tiffin last Saturday. Duquesne is 44-12 at home, including a 21-2 mark since 1999, under 11th-year head coach Greg Gattuso.

THE SERIES

Duquesne leads the series 1-0 ... in the last meeting, then-freshman QB Niel Loebig completed 20-of-41 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns (covering 12, 12, 67 and 19 yards) in a 33-23 win on Sept. 22, 2001 at Indianapolis ... Randy Vulakovich caught six passes for 101 yards including the 67-yard catch-and-run TD for Duquesne ... the DU defense picked off one pass and registered six sacks including one each by returnees Philip Polony and Ben Bailey.

Duquesne's 423 yards of total offense was not enough to overcome four turnovers (three INTs and one fumble) in the loss at Bucknell ... DU finished with more total yards (423-349) and first downs (22-18) but lost the all-important turnover battle (4-0) ... QB Niel Loebig, who was 26-of-50 for 344 yards and two TDs on the evening, lost the handle on the ball after scrambling for a first down inside the Bucknell 10 with under a minute left ... junior WR Michel Warfield caught seven passes for 130 yards and two scores ... he totaled five catches for 111 yards and both TDs in the second quarter alone ... Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette named Warfield one of the publication's Division I-AA Mid-Major Co-Offensive Players of the Week ... Bucknell did its damage on the ground, rushing 61 times for 288 yards (4.7 ypc.)

BUTLER

Tiffin All-American wide receiver Nate Washington caught 10 passes for 220 yards and 3 TDs in the win as two Tiffin QBs combined for 309 yards passing and four TDs through the air ... Butler was outgained 532-259 on the afternoon ... the Bulldogs ground game averaged 1.7 yards per carry (40 carries for 69 yards) as Tiffin recorded seven sacks and 16 total tackles for loss ... junior RB Justin Campbell led Butler with 221 all-purpose yards (45 yds on 21 rushing att., 47 yards on six pass receptions and 129 yards on four kickoff returns.
