Loebig and Carter Named MAAC Players of the Week

Nov. 18, 2003

Duquesne University quarterback Niel Loebig (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League co-Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore middle linebacker Harry Carter (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for their performances in DU's 33-28 win over Robert Morris on Saturday night. It was the league-high fourth time this season both Loebig and Carter have been named Players of the Week.

Loebig completed 15-of-19 passes for 333 yards and three touchdowns (21, 19, 83) in setting new Duquesne career records for passing yards (7,598) and touchdown passes (75). Loebig, who now holds 13 of the 15 school passing records kept, erased the old marks of 7,313 and 73 set by Tony Zimmerman from 1998-00.

It marked the sixth time this season - and 11th time in his career - that Loebig has thrown for over 300 yards in a game. Loebig enters this weekend's ECAC Classic game vs. Monmouth ranked sixth in NCAA Division I-AA in pass efficiency with a 150.48 mark. He shares this week's award with Saint Peter's running back Sean Mayers who rushed for 292 yards in a win over La Salle.

Carter was a one-man wrecking crew for Duquesne in posting 14 tackles (8 solo), 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 3 pass break-ups against the Colonials. His jarring first-quarter tackle of RMU tight end Rob Quaranta forced a fumble that was returned by fellow linebacker Ryan Tolan for a score to give the Dukes an early 14-0 lead. Carter currently leads the team with 102 tackles.

Duquesne completes its season this Saturday at home against Northeast Conference champion Monmouth (10-1, 6-1) the 2003 ECAC Classic. The ECAC Classic matches the champion of the MAAC against the champion of the NEC. Kickoff is set for a 1:00 at Rooney Field.
