Six Duquesne University football players have been named to Don Hansen's Football Gazette 2002 NCAA I-AA Mid-Major All-American team led by first team selection senior wide receiver Jeremy Conley, who was also named the Offensive Receiver of the Year.
Other first team selections from the Red and Blue are senior cornerback Leigh Bodden, senior offensive lineman Richard Greer and senior defensive lineman Bill Arbogast. Duquesne was tied with Albany for top honors with four first team selections each.
Conley, a senior from Pittsburgh's Allderdice High School, is this past season's MAAC Offensive Player of the Year. He holds the school career record with 2,696 receiving yards. In 2002, he totaled a team-high 72 catches for 1,216 yards and 14 touchdowns, including a school single-game record 13 catches against Lafayette College and a single-game record with 245 receiving yards against the University of Dayton. Earlier, Conley was named to The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major All-America Team and to the 2002 New York Lottery MAAC Football League All-Academic Team.
Two other Dukes were named to the second team: junior defensive lineman Philip Polony and senior defensive lineman John Rodgers.
In addition, sophomore quarterback Niel Loebig, freshman linebacker Harry Carter and senior linebacker Trent Wissner were honorable mention All-American picks.
