Sept. 30, 2002
Senior receiver Jeremy Conley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Duquesne's dramatic 35-28 win at top-ranked Dayton on Saturday.
Conley, who caught nine passes for a school-record 245 yards, hauled in a game-winning 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Niel Loebig with nine seconds left to clinch the win. Dayton entered the game ranked No. 1 in the Sports Network Mid-Major top 10, while the Dukes held the No. 2 spot.
Conley, who broke his old record of 231 yards receiving set at VMI in 2000, now has three career 200-yard receiving games. The Pittsburgh native got the Dukes off to a quick start with four catches for 138 yards on DU's first two possessions ? both of which ended in touchdowns. The 6-2, 215-pounder caught passes of 28, 54, 30, 26, 29, 27, 11, 30 and 10 yards on the afternoon. He had three grabs for 51 yards on the Dukes' final 7-play, 80-yard drive including the 10-yard game-winner.
Conley's 245-yard day ranks as the best effort by an NCAA I-AA receiver this season. Conley was named the 2002 MAAC Football League Preseason Offensive Players of the Year in a vote by the league's head coaches.
The Dukes (4-0), currently ranked No. 1 in The Sports Network poll, complete the non-conference portion of their schedule with a Homecoming game against the Patriot League's Lafayette Leopards (2-2) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Rooney Field.
