Duquesne women's tennis, seeded fourth going into the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Tournament, rebounded from an opneing day quarterfinal loss to Dayton by defeating Temple and Fordham to grab fifth place in the Conference Championships at the Tennis Center at College Park in College Park, MD, this weekend.
Junior Marina Zelenovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia/11th H.S. of Belgrade/Missouri) was a perfect 3-0 in singles matches throughout the weekend.
The 4th-seeded Dukes had a first-round bye but were topped in their opening match by the #6 seed Dayton, 4-1, on Friday. The Flyers had shut out #11 St. Joseph's earlier on Friday in the opening round. The Dukes then topped the number 7 seed Temple, 4-3, on Saturday and then won the Sunday match by the same score over the number 8 seed Fordham, to take the top spot in the tournament consolation bracket.
The Red and Blue close the 2001-02 season with a 15-9 record.
