Hepler Throws Shot For 11th At ECAC Championship

May 18, 2002

On Saturday, Duquesne's Marcie Hepler (Vandergrift, PA/Kiski Area) (left) hurled the shot put 43' 5.75" at the ECAC Track & Field Championships at Princeton. The freshman's throw, less than an inch off her Duquesne record, resulted in an 11th place finish among the 22 competitors.

Duquesne's 4 x 800 meter relay team, made up of senior Sarah Saunders (Pittsburgh, PA/North Gate), sophomore Carrie Hucko (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny/Miami-OH) and freshmen Alison Buchanan (Ravenna, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Michelle Flynn (Monroeville, PA/Gateway), completed a run of 9:14.19 for 13th place in the semifinals, edging out the 14th place Pitt squad.

Sophomore Erica DaCosta (Hudson, NH/Alvirne), who had qualified for the javelin, did not compete.

The Dukes have two points in the weekend competition as a result of Tanya Brown's effort in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Fruday.
