Harry Carter Named MAAC Rookie Of The Week

Oct. 7, 2002

PITTSBURGH, PA -- - Freshman middle linebacker Harry Carter (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Rookie of the Week for his performance in Duquesne's 23-22 come-from-behind win over Lafayette on Saturday.

Carter, who was making just his second career start, totaled nine tackles (five solo), recovered a fumble and returned an interception 23 yards to fuel the Dukes. His interception led to Duquesne's first TD of the day, while his fumble recovery at the DU 47 set up a Niel Loebig to Yardon Brantley touchdown pass that gave Duquesne a 20-19 lead with 4:29 left.

The 6-1, 220-pounder currently ranks third on the team with 35 tackles. Duquesne is currently ranked second nationally in total defense among Division I-AA schools at 206.8 yards allowed per game.

Carter is the third DU player to win Rookie of the Week honors this season. Back-up quarterback Ben Palumbo won MAAC Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 16 and safety Javonn Bradley won the award the week of Sept. 23.

The Dukes (5-0, 2-0), currently ranked No. 1 in The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major Poll, travel to Jersey City, N.J. to face No. 5 Saint Peter's (4-2, 3-0) in a matchup of the only two remaining undefeated MAAC teams at Noon on Saturday.
